Description of Project:
SUNY’s Exploring Emerging Technologies for Lifelong Learning and Success (#EmTech) is a free online learning opportunity targeted to college students, faculty, current and career-seeking professionals, and anyone who wants to effectively use technology in today’s rapidly changing world. EmTech consists of two associated parts; #EmTechMOOC and EmTechWIKI, which assist learners and educators in identifying the value and implications of using emerging technologies for professional and personal growth.
How it was Made:
The SUNY #EmTech website has been evolving for more than 10 years. Its original inception was as a course assignment for UB grad students. It later became a faculty online professional development that was funded through the initial round of SUNY Innovative Instruction Technology Grants (IITG). We then expanded the project to assist the needs of students and the general society to improve their digital skills.
A variety of students throughout SUNY worked as programmers to create the WIKI-like experience to take advantage of crowd-sourcing the ever-evolving content. We recently moved the site from a complicated Webapps POD Container system housed at UB to the new SUNY Create platform.
